Lenny Kravitz

How have I neglected Lenny? I am ashamed of myself. Lenny was an obsession that lasted for several years and I still love him. Recently I've been listening to Lenny again for the first time in years and am delighted to report that his songs still sound good. Not all of them, some were clearly written under the influence of too many substances, however there is some greatness to be had. In a moment I shall pick out a few but let's just take a moment to appreciate the gorgeousness of Lenny.

He is ludicrously photogenic. My obsession extended to waiting for hours so I could be in the front row of a concert at Brixton Academy. Here is my photo:

I can't believe that was over 20 years ago. He threw me his plectrum and I still have it somewhere. Oh I do love a good obsession.

Anyway, to his music. I always felt he wasn't given enough credit. He wrote some fabulous songs. Here are some of my favourites.

I adore Heaven Help, it's such a cute little song.

Are You Gonna Go My Way. This still has one of my favourite introductions to a rock song. I love bouncing around to this. It's a great workout song.

Always On The Run. Another fantastic introduction. Lenny and Slash. I think my uterus just skipped a beat. I think this is possibly my favourite Lenny song. I adore it.

Except I also adore Stand By My Woman. The perfect love song.

I also have a soft spot for Believe.

Let Love Rule will always be my favourite Lenny album and the title song is still perfect. I can always listen to this.

Be. I used to listen to this over and over.

I don't have much time for later Lenny but I am enjoying his new career as an actor. He's pretty good as well. Now all he needs to do is get back together with Lisa Bonet and arrange for me to bump into them in New York and I can die happy.

90s songs: Ini Kamoze, Here Comes The Hot Stepper

This is the very definition of an earworm, I heard this at the weekend and I've been literally singing it to myself constantly since then. I don't mind though because it's fantastic. I had forgotten all about this song but once I heard it, I hot-footed to iTunes to buy it and added it to my workout playlist. It's pretty much perfect and impossible to sit still to. Before you click below, ask yourself: Are you prepared to have this in your head on repeat for the next week? Click carefully my friends.

My workout playlist

Today I saw my personal trainer. Sometimes we go running but most of the time she puts me through hell in my house. You may have noticed that music is very important to me and it becomes vital to my survival when it comes to working out.

I did warn Katie (my PT) at the beginning that she will have to put up with my taste and, so far, she's kept a straight face and even bopped around to Beyonce. Today she could not stop giggling to each song (I'd made up a new CD this afternoon as I get bored easily).

Salt & Pepa - she could barely stand up she was laughing so much. I was a bit bemused but she insisted, no she loved it. Then Together in Electric Dreams came on and she asked who it was. I know, I know, I don't pay her to know pivotal 80s music though and I did a little dance while I answered and she was in pieces. Biology came on and she completely lost it and said 'it's like being in a teenager's bedroom!' I, of course, took this as the compliment it was no doubt intended to be. We were doing a plank at the end and she laughed again and asked 'who is this?' to which I replied, while also snorting with laughter, 'why Hall & Oates of course!' I just about managed to the end of the plank before dissolving in giggles. You try doing a plank and laughing.

For your delectation dear readers, here is my current playlist, Whitney-tribute included.

What are your favourite songs for exercise? Inspire me as I always need suggestions. I leave you with this, my god they were awesome.
